Mr. Kobus Smit (Chairman)
Mr. Smit is the Executive Chairman and founder of the Gecko Namibia and Genet South Africa Group of Companies. Starting from humble beginnings, he currently owns and manages a diversified portfolio of business interests that include some of the most valuable mining and tourism assets in private ownership within the Southern African region. His entrepreneurial spirit has seen him lead the rapid growth of the Group that currently employs in excess of 2 500 people.
Mr. Joseph Benson (Director)
Mr. Benson has vast managerial experience in the manufacturing (confectionery), petroleum and energy and public health sectors with his forte being financial, procurement and human resource management. He has also held directorships in several companies specialising in the procurement and marketing of petroleum products not only in South Africa but throughout the SADC Region. He is a member of several professional associations and has for the past five years served as a high level executive in health management at Government level. He has made a significant impact by assisting hospitals with their financial management and audit processes.
Ms. N’Tasha Marais (Director)
Hailing from the Eastern Cape, Ms. Marais pursued her passion for youth development from a young age. This commitment has seen her working in this field for several years which included a short stint in the Trade Union Movement. She has also contributed to community building through her long association with numerous Non-Governmental Organisations. She currently serves as a director and member of various privately owned investment entities. Now resident in Cape Town, her interests range from eco-agriculture, social entrepreneurship, hiking and reading widely so as to ensure continuous development and self-improvement.
Mr. Mike Gibson (Chief Executive Officer)
Mr. Gibson has a wealth of mining and management experience gained in the coal mining sector where he has held numerous senior management positions with leading international mining companies. He holds a BSc Eng. (Mineral Resource Management) Degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a member of the South African Colliery Managers Association.
